Hauling of materials from the site of Enbridge’s May 9, 2011 pipeline leak 50 km south of Wrigley was completed at the end of March. Additional hauling from the staging area south of the leak site was completed in mid-April.
A total of 33 monitoring wells have been installed at the leak site — including 10 deep wells. Enbridge will monitor these wells for at least two years to confirm no impacts remain. Enbridge plans to complete re-vegetation and reclamation (plant trees and monitor for weeds) work at the leak site in the summer of 2012. We will monitor groundwater at the leak site in late summer 2012 once the groundwater has thawed.
Enbridge has completed twelve investigative digs in the Deh Cho region. All work related to the digs was completed at the end of March and equipment and materials were moved out of the area at the beginning of April. In completing the digs, Enbridge used local resources when available and contracted the services of seven local businesses. Enbridge’s integrity and maintenance programs are ongoing and work, including investigative digs, will be performed on the pipeline as needed in the future.
