Enbridge - Where energy meets people

Skills and Development Training

Enbridge has partnered with Aboriginal and Native American communities to help provide their members with the opportunity to participate in our many new pipeline construction projects and acquire skills for the future.

We have worked with these communities to create educational training programs, employment opportunity initiatives and capacity building efforts, ensuring that Aboriginal communities receive sustainable benefits from these projects.

Between January 2008 and December 2009, Enbridge’s Line 4, Southern Lights and Alberta Clipper Mainline expansion projects provided Aboriginal people with more than $33 million in employment and business opportunities and approximately $1 million in training programs.

Enbridge has sponsored a number of initiatives that provide training in career development, safety, employment readiness and construction specific trades to Aboriginal and Native American communities located near our projects and operations.

  • Enbridge teamed up with the Northern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association, the Government of Alberta and Meyers Norris Penny LLP to deliver Contract Readiness, Entrepreneur, and Project Management training to First Nations of Treaty 8 and Métis in Fort McMurray.
  • Enbridge sponsored students from the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation who participate in a Construction and General Workers Local 92 training program, delivered by a mobile training unit.
  • Enbridge provided $5,000 in 2009 in support to the Yekooche First Nation for Advanced First Aid Training.
  • Enbridge sponsored a two-day Guiding Circles Facilitator Training workshop in 2009 in Kitimat and Terrace, British Columbia, led by the Aboriginal Human Resource Council.
  • Enbridge provided $5,000 in funding to Building Environmental Aboriginal Human Resources program hosted by Northern Lights College in support of seven Aboriginal communities from Kelly Lake, Chetwynd, Pouce Coupe, Shuswap, and Tsimshian.
  • The Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association received $10,000 in funding from Enbridge and is one of the partners in Enbridge’s submitted Aboriginal Skills Employment Partnership proposal.
